On Day 4 of the Parliament of the World’s Religions (PoWR), the Tzu Chi delegation participated in four parallel sessions. Tzu Chi volunteers also held the second round of Tzu Chi’s Sustainability Fashion Show, the first taking place the previous day.
On Tuesday, August 15, the second day of the Parliament of the World’s Religions (PoWR) in Chicago, members of the Tzu Chi delegation attended three panels on diverse topics and two unique activities. The day began with discussions about the climate crisis and health systems.
To help community residents maintain their physical and mental well-being, Tzu Chi USA collaborated with the California Mental Health Services Authority (CalMHSA) and the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) to host the “Resilience in Action” Summit on June 10th. More than ten experts and scholars were invited to discuss how to grow amidst adversity.
Tzu Chi USA Northeast Region launched a free vision clinic program at the Steward Hotel in Manhattan at the end of June 2023, providing eye care services to refugees from all over the world so they can settle down in the U.S. with peace of mind.
Believing in the importance of community outreach for long-term change, documentarian Jaime Puerta joined the global Tzu Chi network nearly seven years ago to lift up diverse voices and experiences from horizon to horizon, helping raise awareness for sustainable development, socio-economic empowerment, disaster response, and far beyond. Shortly after starting its food distribution project in 1996, Tzu Chi USA National Headquarters began providing free quarterly clinics for agricultural workers and low-income families in San Bernardino County, one of the five poorest counties in the United States. After a temporary suspension due to the pandemic, the clinics resumed in 2022, offering Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine services as well as dental and eye care not usually covered by American health insurance.
Tzu Chi USA’s Mid-Atlantic Region held a training workshop for new vision care volunteers as part of a wider initiative to expand access to eye care across the region.
