In the summer of 2024, floods surged through parts of Minnesota following several rounds of thunderstorms, leaving cities like Waterville awash in murky water, and causing many homes to become uninhabitable. Bounding into action, Tzu Chi USA’s Midwest Region volunteers prepared for assessment and relief, holding a disaster relief distribution on September 28, 2024, in Waterville, Minnesota. The relief event provided affected households with cash cards loaded with funds and eco-friendly blankets from DA.AI Technology, bringing love and warmth to survivors.

On October 9, 2024, Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida, generating at least 40 tornado reports as Milton gradually churned across the Florida peninsula and finally out over the Atlantic Ocean. Communities were battered by strong winds and heavy rain, which impacted homes, and left over two million Florida residents in the dark. What's more, this storm came after Hurricane Helene's deadly landfall in Florida just two weeks prior. After Tzu Chi's assessment mission concluded, relief distributions began. On November 16, a distribution was held at Lakewood Park Church, aiding 73 affected families and 205 survivors.

During the span of June 2024 to October 2024, participation in vegetarian cooking classes held by Tzu Chi volunteers allowed members of the East Palo Alto community to achieve healthier lifestyles and stronger family bonds through diet education and lessons on how to prepare delicious plant-based meals.

On September 28, 2024, Tzu Chi USA and Listos California held their Family Safety Expo from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM at Pacific Palms Resort in the City of Industry, California. Safety experts gave free seminars on disaster preparedness, fraud recognition and prevention, identity theft, and family and community safety to help families prepare for different types of disasters, enhancing both awareness and resilience.

On September 2, 2024, Tzu Chi USA Northwest Region’s Oakland Service Center volunteers held a second disaster relief distribution at the Asian Cultural Center in Oakland for those impacted by a recent fire in a low-rent apartment building in Chinatown. Nearly 100 affected residents came to the event, where Tzu Chi not only provided cash cards to address their daily needs but also extended mid-term care, helping them find suitable transitional housing while collaborating with community organizations to speed up repairs in their former dwellings, thereby soothing the disaster survivors’ persistent fears and anxiety.

Since 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic began, a team of Tzu Chi USA Northwest Region volunteers from the San Francisco Branch has visited the Candlestick RV Park in Bayview-Hunters Point once a week to provide supplies and assistance in this community where many undocumented immigrants from Central and South America reside. On August 24, 2024, the volunteers brought school supplies for students, including backpacks, uniforms, socks, toothpaste and toothbrushes, shampoo, etc., so these children, who have been living in the margins with their families for some time, can start the new academic year with confidence.

The Park Fire, which started on July 24, 2024, near Chico, in Butte County, Northern California, burned 709 structures, leaving many in the impacted area with heavy losses. Tzu Chi USA Northwest Region volunteers quickly launched disaster relief distributions of cash cards, with the first round on August 10-11. They continued with a second round on August 17. By the third round on August 24, exactly one month after the Park Fire started, the team completed cash card distributions for all registered survivors. This mission provided $104,500 in aid, benefiting 158 households who could better meet their daily needs in the aftermath of this catastrophe.
