The theme of the 2023 convening of the Parliament of the World’s Religions (PoWR) is “A Call to Conscience: Defending Freedom & Human Rights.” The Program Chair, Rev. HPs. Phyllis Curott, in her pre-PoWR address, stated: Every faith has, at its core, a summoning to ease the suffering of others and to contribute to a just, peaceful, and sustainable world. Today, the Parliament of the World’s Religions issues its Call to Conscience to people of faith and spirit, to the people of Chicago, to all people of conscience, to stand together in defense of the dignity, freedom, and human rights of all.”

To help community residents maintain their physical and mental well-being, Tzu Chi USA collaborated with the California Mental Health Services Authority (CalMHSA) and the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) to host the “Resilience in Action” Summit on June 10th. More than ten experts and scholars were invited to discuss how to grow amidst adversity.

Two Tzu Chi Great Love Preschools in Southern California organized a gratitude and blessing graduation ceremony for their graduating students. Teachers presented each student with a tassel and handed them their first graduation certificate and graduation gift, marking an important milestone in their lives.

Starting in July, Tzu Chi USA Cerritos Service Center volunteers decided to end the drive-thru distribution of fruits and vegetables started during the pandemic and returned to the pre-pandemic way, where people could push their grocery carts to long tables with food to receive supplies.

The 2023 NVOAD Conference was held in St. Louis, Missouri, from May 8-11, 2023. Tzu Chi worked hard throughout the event to spread the spirit of Great Love by setting up a Reflection Room, hosting a Buddha Bathing ceremony, and was honored to lead the Awards Dinner invocation at the conclusion of the event.
