The theme of the 2023 convening of the Parliament of the World’s Religions (PoWR) is
“A Call to Conscience: Defending Freedom & Human Rights.” The Program Chair, Rev. HPs. Phyllis Curott, in her pre-PoWR address, stated:
Every faith has, at its core, a summoning to ease the suffering of others and to contribute to a just, peaceful, and sustainable world. Today, the Parliament of the World’s Religions issues its Call to Conscience to people of faith and spirit, to the people of Chicago, to all people of conscience, to stand together in defense of the dignity, freedom, and human rights of all.”
Tzu Chi USA Seattle Branch volunteers attended Washington State’s King County Community Partnership for Transition Solutions Summer Institute in Olympia, Washington, on August 17 and 18, 2022. Once again, Tzu Chi USA received the Best Community Partnership Award for its continued efforts to help ex-offenders and their families during the pandemic through the Hunger Relief initiative. The conference poster artwork by ex-offender Michael Florez also carried a touching story that led back to Tzu Chi’s aid.
On Thanksgiving Eve, Monrovia, California hosted the 55th Cross-Religion Breakfast, bringing together leaders of various religious groups to pray for the world. Tzu Chi USA was invited to represent the Buddhist faith by Monrovia Mayor Tom Adams.

The ceremony closed with parents and their children walking through the flower rings, holding each other’s hand. With this important ceremony, these accomplished preschool graduate scholars are more than ready for their next chapter.
It’s as though Zhang Wen-Xin has sown a seed, and the new bud is about to sprout.
