On August 15, 2020, Tzu Chi USA’s Southern Region chapter held a food distribution, in partnership with Houston Food Bank (HFB, for the third time in two months. Southwest Management District, established by the Texas Legislature, provided security officers to direct traffic and maintain peace.

In a few short months, the new coronavirus has brought governments, economies, and social systems around the world to their knees. To address the consequent needs within and near Dallas, Texas, Tzu Chi volunteers based at its Central Regional Headquarters began launching adaptive relief efforts.
The novel coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China, began to spread in January 2020. With its infection ratio ten times higher than SARS, it has now impacted every country in the world.
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought families across the US into poverty, hunger, and desperation. While Tzu Chi USA’s initial efforts to “Flatten the Curve” have brought immediate aid to our front-line heroes, essential workers, and more, we are now shifting into long-term recovery efforts that buffer the outstanding needs of our nation’s most vulnerable.
My Fellow Brothers and Sisters, We are vigilantly monitoring new developments across the country and around the world, as well as guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
As we continue to monitor the global COVID-19 pandemic, we’re doing our part to ensure that both our dedicated volunteers and the communities we serve can stay safe and protected as this national emergency unfolds. Thus, we have taken the following measures:
Following the 2017 Mexico earthquake, the local Morelos Institute – a school in the municipality of Jojutla – was reduced to rubble. During a Tzu Chi disaster relief assessment, it was revealed that the school’s rebuilding would pose a great difficulty for the community.
