Starting in July, Tzu Chi USA Cerritos Service Center volunteers decided to end the drive-thru distribution of fruits and vegetables started during the pandemic and returned to the pre-pandemic way, where people could push their grocery carts to long tables with food to receive supplies.
Tzu Chi USA’s Environmental Character Education courses returned to Shelyn Elementary School on May 23, 2023, to conduct an environmental lesson on “Resource Recycling” for nearly 500 students from kindergarten to sixth grade in three sessions.
On May 22, 2023, the Tzu Chi Mexico Tijuana Campus extended an invitation to Tijuana City Councilor Miriam Echeverria for a special visit to the Tzu Chi Education Campus in Walnut, California. The visit gave Councilor Echeverria a first-hand look at how Tzu Chi intertwines character, environmental stewardship, and meaningful life lessons with eco-farming, thereby cultivating these principles into everyday life.
Students from Tzu Chi Education Campus in Walnut, California, were invited to the local city council to participate in Tzu Chi USA’s 1st Annual Young Community Leader Summit. They delivered bilingual speeches on themes of “Ways to Save the Environment” and “Go Greener,” and were awarded certificates to commemorate the event.
In response to the severe flooding caused by March 2023’s third Atmospheric River in Pajaro, California, Tzu Chi USA’s Northwest region immediately organized a unique supply distribution. On April 23, thanks to the collective efforts of 31 volunteers, a total of $29,900 in cash card aid was provided to 195 survivors at the Hampton Inn, as well as a tea ceremony to soothe survivors’ spirits.
The Tzu Chi Education Campus in Walnut, California, warmly welcomed second-grade students from Fred Ekstrand Elementary School in San Dimas, Los Angeles, accompanied by their parents and teachers. Eighty-one individuals came together on Earth Day to learn about caring for the Earth and practicing environmental protection.
The Tzu Chi Education Foundation sponsored the Life Science Farm Green City Environmental Event, which opened on March 18, 2023 under sunny skies. With 36 booths, including eight government agencies, the event aimed to promote vegetarianism and environmental consciousness.
On May 21, 2023, Tzu Chi USA’s Northeast Region held its first-ever Caring for Health Day event at PS 94 Elementary School in Brooklyn, New York. Nearly 20 practitioners offered various medical services such as Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments, acupuncture, rehab and physical therapy, dental care, and other services free of charge, attracting nearly 200 local residents in need of support.
