After two years without in-person services, residents of Bakersfield, CA were thrilled to have Tzu Chi’s medical team visit their community. Many patients came to the free clinic in dire need of medical attention as on-site care had been halted due to the pandemic. The event was heavily trafficked, furthering the team’s mission to host more free clinics in the near future.

Tzu Chi Volunteers Join Hands With the Fresno Community to Send Love to Local Afghan Refugee Families

By the middle of 2021, violence in Afghanistan intensified and spread through the country, displacing an estimated 318,500 Afghans inside their homeland. What’s more, 80% of people forcibly displaced within Afghanistan are women and children. To date, nearly 6 million Afghans have been driven from their homes in search of safety. Impacted by this ongoing crisis, some refugees who fled to the United States have lived temporarily in Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Texas, with the help of the United Nations. In November of the same year, Tzu Chi volunteer Ling Cho learned about an Afghan family who would be relocated to the Fresno community, and urgently needed assistance.

A volunteer from the Tzu Chi Northeast Region wanted to help her community in Long Island. Lilian Kuo saw an opportunity to improve the lives of food distribution recipients by presenting them with a 21 Day Healthy Challenge. The project was a huge undertaking, and it didn’t come without its obstacles, but Lilian persevered. With help from her team, participants, and a local restaurant, the initiative was more successful than she could have ever imagined.

An Open Letter for Love and Relief From Buddhist Tzu Chi Charity Foundation CEO

As of June 16, 2022, over 8 million people in Ukraine have been internally displaced. Since February 24, the number of Ukrainians who have left their homeland surpassed 7.3 million, with more than half seeking safety in Poland. Buddhist Tzu Chi Charity Foundation CEO Po-Wen Yen has published an open letter to boost international awareness of Tzu Chi’s efforts to help the people of Ukraine, hoping that love will inspire more people to assist in alleviating the physical and spiritual pain of Ukrainians in the midst of this crisis.
