Tzu Chi Mid-Atlantic Region held their annual community-wide health fair on Sunday, September 18, 2022. A team of 27 dedicated physicians and medical professionals from New York and New Jersey, and two Daai Optometry mobile clinics joined the service team to provide vision exams for those in need after a three-year hiatus.
Tzu Chi volunteers in Southern California often visit communities in Tijuana, a border city in Mexico just south of California, to offer their love and care. Volunteer Ah Mui Pse and Tzu Chi physician Sihong Wang have worked in the local area for 15 years — and their commitment to helping others is unstoppable. Alongside fellow volunteers, they delivered love to care facilities for seniors and people who are battling AIDS, helping them overcome challenges and improve their living environment.

Before seven in the morning on Saturday, June 11, 2022, a truck loaded with food from Second Harvest Food Bank in Northern California’s Silicon Valley slowly approached Costano Elementary School in East Palo Alto, where Tzu Chi volunteers provide semimonthly food distributions. After the driver unloaded the truck, Tzu Chi volunteers skillfully sorted the different kinds of food in preparation for distribution. Meanwhile, local community residents queued up to register, bringing shopping bags or carts to pick up food that would last them for the next few weeks.
Under the economic pressure of severe inflation in the United States, many low-income families can’t make ends meet and aren’t receiving timely treatment for their health problems. Tzu Chi USA Northeast Region’s Long Island Branch Office cares for the community and those impacted by the ever-rising cost of living. Thus, aiming to solve people’s medical problems, the Long Island Branch Office held a free clinic on July 17, 2022.
After two years without in-person services, residents of Bakersfield, CA were thrilled to have Tzu Chi’s medical team visit their community. Many patients came to the free clinic in dire need of medical attention as on-site care had been halted due to the pandemic. The event was heavily trafficked, furthering the team’s mission to host more free clinics in the near future.
In February of 2022, Tzu Chi USA had quite the variety of charitable efforts on their plate. Tzu Chi volunteers specializing in hairstyling offered free haircuts to senior citizens and Tzu Chi Medical’s optometrists gave eye checks and free glasses to elementary school students.
The Tzu Chi Medical Foundation has become a well-rounded resource for communities in need (on wheels). The branch of Global Tzu Chi offers free, mobile clinics to underserved areas who are in need of medical attention in several different disciplines. With the help of doctors, dentists, chiropractors, opthamologists, and volunteers, Tzu Chi is able to provide residents and their families with quality care many of them haven’t seen in years.
