Tzu Chi Orange County Community Free Clinic Helps Those in Need

On March 6, 2023, the Tzu Chi USA Headquarters Delegation visited sponsored care recipients and an AIDS Home in Tijuana, Mexico. They offered support, delivered essential supplies, and shared hope for a brighter future.
On February 18, 2023, the Tzu Chi San Francisco Branch and the Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco collaborated to organize their first Tzu Chi Health Day free clinic, where doctors examined a total of 30 community residents.
Every year at this time, I always feel that life comes and goes quickly. In the past, we may have been busy with family and work. Now that we are older, we need to reflect on ourselves and take care of our physical and mental wellbeing.
On February 26, 2023, Tzu Chi New York hosted a vision mobile service at the NYPD Community Center at 127 Penn in Brooklyn, New York. Fifteen patients in total, regardless of insurance status, received prescription glasses in same-day service — 100% free. The opportunity was made possible thanks to a link with the NYPD Community Affairs Bureau.
On February 2, 2023, Tzu Chi Northeast volunteers were invited to craft an all-vegetarian feast at the Lunar New Year Gala at New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ home, Gracie Mansion. This groundbreaking collaboration marked Tzu Chi USA’s first-ever visit to the prestigious residence.
The “San Gabriel Valley Consortium on Homelessness” in southern California resumed its in-person annual conference at the Tzu Chi USA Headquarters campus this year. Nearly 200 participants from all walks of life gathered to discuss housing planning and affordable housing policies in the San Gabriel Valley, in hopes of helping those in need in the area.
On February 24, 2022, the Russian army invaded Ukraine. This largest war since the start of the 21st century directly displaced more than eight million Ukrainian families and affected countries and regions worldwide in terms of economy, food and agriculture, energy, and regional security. Representatives of two international organizations that signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tzu Chi last year for a joint humanitarian aid effort for Ukrainians, IsraAid, and ADRA International (The Adventist Development and Relief Agency International), met Debra Boudreaux, CEO of Tzu Chi USA, for the first time on February 24, 2023. The date marked the first anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine war. They exchanged their mutual international emergency aid experience and discussed current disaster relief following the recent earthquake in Turkey.
On February 6, 2023, a major 7.8 magnitude earthquake brought heavy damage to Antakya, the capital of Hatay Province, Turkey. The sudden disaster collapsed beloved homes, buildings, and cherished historical sites. Then, on the evening of February 20, a 6.4 magnitude quake struck Hatay, causing yet more destruction to the province, and adding to this already tragic moment. Tzu Chi aims to hold distributions for more than 33,000 households in the hardest-hit areas of Hatay, Gaziantep, and Kilis.
