As summer ended and back-to-school season poked its head around the corner, Tzu Chi volunteers organized an event for the occasion. The Happy Back to School Day distribution, on August 6, served a total of 77 students in gearing up for another year of school. Backpacks filled with school supplies, pandemic prevention kits, cash cards, and Tzu Chi love were given to their new owners, taking the weight off of families in need.

In July of 2022, Tzu Chi USA, local volunteers and advocates, and a former San Dimas City Councilmember, met to discuss the expansion of community clothing distributions. Through collaborative efforts, we hope to deliver better, more effective care for local families.

An award ceremony was held for Tzu Chi scholarship recipients at Tzu Chi USA’s New York Regional Office for the first time in two consecutive years. The ceremony for a total of 22 students was held on July 16, 2022, alongside a live streaming session to ensure all could join in the special event.

After a two-year pandemic pause, Tzu Chi Education Foundation was elated to be able to host their one-day camp centered around environmental protection. Students, teachers, and parents from Ekstrand Elementary learned how to “reduce, reuse, recycle” through immersive activities.

The tiny flame of a forgotten candle turned into a blaze that caused irreparable damage to the Madison Apartments in Seattle, Washington. The fire took the life of one resident and critically injured others, while also leaving dozens of survivors without homes. Tzu Chi volunteers, in partnership with the Red Cross, held an emergency distribution event to assist those in immediate need.

For the past eight years, George Hardwick has been a dedicated partner of Tzu Chi’s Phoenix Service Center. A social worker by day, and altruist in his free time, George has his very own food bank stocked with items to be donated to those in need. The selfless donor invited Tzu Chi volunteers into his home to check out his pantry for themselves, sharing his spiritual space and his personal connection to Tzu Chi’s mission.

Tzu Chi volunteers in Southern California often visit communities in Tijuana, a border city in Mexico just south of California, to offer their love and care. Volunteer Ah Mui Pse and Tzu Chi physician Sihong Wang have worked in the local area for 15 years — and their commitment to helping others is unstoppable. Alongside fellow volunteers, they delivered love to care facilities for seniors and people who are battling AIDS, helping them overcome challenges and improve their living environment.

On the afternoon of August 7th, 2022, twenty local community members from Tijuana, a border city in Mexico just south of California, arrived at the Tzu Chi medical campus for a long-awaited event. On this special day, they would all be participating in their first-ever Tzu Chi volunteer training course.
