From June 27 to 30, Tzu Chi media volunteers from across the United States gathered for the 2024 Tzu Chi USA Media Team Retreat held at the Tzu Chi USA National Headquarters campus in San Dimas, California. With great interest and enthusiasm, they took part in over 20 diverse hands-on courses, actively honing their videography, photography, and writing skills, gaining insight into the power of social media, and learning about copyright laws and other relevant issues. At the same time, the retreat attendees deepened their understanding of Tzu Chi’s humanistic culture and how documentation allows more people to discover the world of Tzu Chi and its spirit of putting compassion into action and daily giving to help those in need.

In a heartwarming display of community spirit and unwavering dedication, volunteers gathered again at our Tzu Chi Health Center in South El Monte on May 21, 2024, to reflect on and enhance their contributions to its waiting area. This gathering marked the second reunion since the initial meeting on January 30, 2024, which aimed to bring volunteers back to Tzu Chi Medical Foundation Health Centers. The continued commitment of these volunteers plays an essential role in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for patients.

On May 18, 2024, Barnes Memorial Park in Monterey Park was the epicenter of a joyous celebration as Tzu Chi Medical Foundation participated in a Taiwanese American Heritage Week Festival and a Mental Health & Wellness Fair. Both events were a spectacular success, drawing in thousands of visitors eager to experience Taiwan's rich cultural tapestry and access vital mental health and wellness resources.

On Sunday, April 28, 2024, Tzu Chi USA Mid-Atlantic Region volunteers in New Jersey held a large-scale free dental clinic event at St. Joseph Pro-Cathedral, a Catholic church in Camden, providing residents with services such as scaling, dental checkups, oral cancer screening, and dental health hygiene education. Doctors Botang Wen, Yulei Guo, and Kim Young, assisted by 40 Tzu Chi volunteers, provided dental care to 23 patients and presented an oral hygiene class to 28 residents. When the patients smiled after receiving care, it was the moment all those serving felt the joy of helping others selflessly and seeing the heartwarming results of their free services firsthand.

On May 2, 2024, the National Day of Prayer in the United States, which occurs on the first Thursday of May annually, the Tzu Chi USA National Headquarters Region’s Phoenix Service Center in Arizona, by invitation, participated in a large-scale interfaith prayer event in the City of Mesa, where The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also referred to as the Mormon Church, has a significant presence. There, Tzu Chi volunteers and representatives prayed alongside representatives of different religious groups.

On May 12, 2024, Tzu Chi USA Northwest Region’s Oakland Service Center in Northern California celebrated Buddha Day, Mother’s Day, and Tzu Chi Day with a grand outdoor ceremony in Clinton Park across the street from the Service Center. The solemn event attracted nearly 400 people and was attended by Amaya Lin, a representative from the office of Oakland City Council President Nikki Bas, who presented an award to recognize Tzu Chi Oakland’s contribution to the local community and to wish the event success, acknowledging the peace and serenity that the Buddhist prayers during the ceremony brought to all in attendance.

To provide high-quality health care to the local community, a collaborative clinic event was held on March 16, 2024, at the Stockton Chinese Benevolent Association. On the day of the event, physicians offered Western medicine, Chinese medicine, dentistry, and chiropractic services.

As the spring breeze began to warm and May fast approached, Tzu Chi’s volunteer team in California’s Silicon Valley commenced preparations for an early Mother’s Day appreciation event. This activity was held for Tzu Chi’s long-term care recipient families on Saturday morning, April 27, 2024, in East Palo Alto. Here, children presented their parents with vibrant flower arrangements completed on the spot, while the volunteers presented additional gifts to parents.

Here, diverse government agencies and social welfare organizations in Silicon Valley assembled hand in hand to provide crucial disaster prevention and response information to enhance both awareness and resilience.

After a fire caused severe damage to an apartment building in Elgin, Illinois, on March 26, 2024, leaving 29 residents without a home, the American Red Cross found temporary shelter for the displaced and contacted the Tzu Chi USA Midwest Region Office in Chicago, which provided disaster relief at the shelter on March 29. Comforted after obtaining tangible aid and moral support, the care recipients left Tzu Chi’s disaster relief distribution with renewed hope.
