SCHOOL HOURS, CLASSES & CLASS SIZE
School Hours
- For the 2025-2026 school year, classes start on 8/29/2026.
- A weekly Saturday class from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, from September current year to next May (total for 32 weeks classes)
- School offers 2 hours of Mandarin Learning and 1 hour of Humanitarian Culture study.
Classes:
- Heritage Classes are designed for Chinese-speaking students from Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st through 9th Grades with class materials in Bopomofo and traditional Chinese characters.
Class Size:
- All Classes are limited to 20 students per class.
- A class with less than 12 students enrolled or due to special reasons may be canceled.
- For the vacancy of a class, the siblings of a returning student enrolled on or before 3/31 will be placed first. The rest will be placed based on the enrollment order until the class is filled.
REQUIREMENTS
Age:
- All students enrolling in the Pre-K (PK) class must be 4 years old by 9/1/2026.

The Placement Test:
- The Placement Test is used to assess the student’s Chinese language skill to fit into the intended grade. Based on the assessment result, the student will be placed in the best-fit grade which may not be the original intended grade. All new students enrolling in all grades except Pre-K are required to take the Placement Test before enrollment. Acceptance will be based on the test result and class vacancy. Before enrollment, please contact the school staff at [email protected] to schedule the test.
Uniform:
- Students are required to wear the uniform during the class session: the Tzu-chi Academy upper outer garment with navy blue khaki trousers and white sneakers. The Tzu-chi Academy upper outer garment can be purchased from the school at the beginning of the school year. Navy blue khaki trousers and white sneakers can be purchased at stores like Kohl’s, Target, and Walmart.

- Please pay by check or cash when picking up the uniforms.
SPECIAL NOTES FOR PARENTS
- Weekly reminders regarding school events will be sent to your email inbox.
- Parents of new students are required to attend the New Student Parents Orientation. The Orientation time and details will be notified via email.
- Parents are required to fulfill class and school duties during the school year.
REGISTRATION FEE (not tax deductible nor refundable)
- Returning/New students non-refundable registration fee is $40
TUITION (not tax deductible)
Annual tuition
- $630 (Students registering before April 30, 2026 , 11:59 pm PST may receive $20 Tuition discount)
**The tuition of Grade 8 & Grade 9 classes does not include the cost of textbooks. Students need to purchase textbooks separately from a third party.
- Uniform fees are to be paid in check or cash, please make check payable to Tzu Chi
- Currently enrolled students and their siblings have priority registration reserved until April 30, 2026.
Early Bird Discount
- $20 discount of Tuition fee before 4/30/2026
Sibling Discount
- $40 discount of Tuition for the 3rd child enrolled. (only applicable after the 2 siblings have already registered)
Other Discount
- $40 discount of Tuition for Children of teachers at Tzu Chi Academy in San Jose.
REFUND POLICY & PROCEDURE
Refund Policy
- Refund processing time may take 3~4 weeks, NO REFUND will be given for the registration fee
- Requests received before 8/29/2026: A 100% refund of tuition will be granted after deducting registration fee and $30.00 processing fee.
- Requests received on10/01/2026 or earlier: A 75% refund of tuition will be granted after deducting registration fee and $30.00 processing fee.
- Requests received between 10/01/2026~10/30/2026: A 50% refund of tuition will be granted after deducting registration fee and $30.00 processing fee.
- No refund afterwards.
- No refunds will be given for expelled students.
