Tzu Chi Mid-Atlantic Region held their annual community-wide health fair on Sunday, September 18, 2022. A team of 27 dedicated physicians and medical professionals from New York and New Jersey, and two Daai Optometry mobile clinics joined the service team to provide vision exams for those in need after a three-year hiatus.
As summer came to an end and we welcomed a brand new season, a song of joy could be heard echoing at the Tzu Chi Mid-Atlantic Region Food Pantry. On September 9, 2022, volunteers and recipients celebrated the 12th anniversary of the food pantry.
An award ceremony was held for Tzu Chi scholarship recipients at Tzu Chi USA’s New York Regional Office for the first time in two consecutive years. The ceremony for a total of 22 students was held on July 16, 2022, alongside a live streaming session to ensure all could join in the special event.
Tzu Chi USA Headquarters has worked to understand the needs of refugees since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began. As the organization has raised millions in emergency funding, volunteers have realized there are countless essentials refugees are still missing after fleeing their country. The California campus held a summer clothing drive to be sent to Poland and bordering countries so refugees could have seasonal garments.
Under the economic pressure of severe inflation in the United States, many low-income families can’t make ends meet and aren’t receiving timely treatment for their health problems. Tzu Chi USA Northeast Region’s Long Island Branch Office cares for the community and those impacted by the ever-rising cost of living. Thus, aiming to solve people’s medical problems, the Long Island Branch Office held a free clinic on July 17, 2022.
On June 25, 2022, medical volunteers had the opportunity to learn new protocols and safety instructions to better serve patients. Free dental clinics for community members in need have resumed post-pandemic, and medical volunteers are ready to get back to caring for those in need of services.
On May 29, 2022, Tzu Chi USA National Headquarters volunteers from Los Angeles, and Tzu Chi Youth Group members (Tzu Shao) from the Mid-West Los Angeles chapter, resumed beach cleanup activities suspended for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They aimed to help keep our coasts beautiful through community action over the Memorial Day weekend.
Thanksgiving to the United States is what the Chinese New Year’s Eve dinner is to China. These important days mean getting together with family and friends, celebrating love and camaraderie in a grandiose way. COVID-19 had a way of putting a major damper on events that were traditionally something to look forward to.
