El Menahil International School Takes on Anti-bullying in Schools Program to Promote Great Love

Founded by the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation in 2015, El Menahil International School serves Syrian families displaced by violence and conflict by providing education and support for children, adults, and their families. Designed to boost awareness and build upon the concepts of great love without limits, the Tzu Chi Character Education team established an “Anti-bullying in Schools” program to help students and teachers spot the signs of bullying. Also taught in the U.S., this program was carried out via a 30-minute group class. The one-week course took place from February 28 to March 4, 2022.

Tzu Chi USA’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program Continues at the El Monte Service Center

On February 12, community residents had their income tax returns prepared for free by trained Tzu Chi volunteers at the El Monte Service Center in CA. With this year’s tax season approaching fast, Tzu Chi volunteers know how daunting filing income tax returns can be for many people, including for our community members who have recently immigrated to the United States, and who may face language barriers. Community members who earned less than $58,000 last year can have their income tax returns prepared for free via Tzu Chi USA’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Tzu Chi Volunteers Join Hands for a Christmas Eve Tornado Relief Distribution in Bowling Green

On December 10–11, 2021, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration logged over 50 tornadoes that traveled across eight U.S. states, tragically taking lives, and destroying entire communities. Tzu Chi Midwest volunteers mobilized without delay, partnering with community organizations and individuals to begin assessment, and provide direct relief with compassion and care. Tzu Chi volunteers continued their mission on Christmas Eve by holding a relief distribution for survivors in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Support for Tulane University student evacuated to Houston

On August 29, 2021, Hurricane Ida ransacked the entire East Coast and parts of the South, severely impacting Louisiana. Flood warnings and road closures threatened to halt humanitarian aid organizations from delivering relief to survivors and evacuees; Tzu Chi’s Southern Regional Office partnered with area nonprofits to brainstorm the most effective ways to help those in need. The Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation was especially touched to have been able to connect with international students from Taiwan who study at New Orleans’ Tulane University.

Tzu Chi Medical Association Upholds Community Wellness in Long Island

On August 8, 2021, Tzu Chi Medical Association sponsored a joint event in Long Island, providing free community health check-ups. This special event marked the first Tzu Chi medical outreach event since March of 2020. Further care for community health was offered through a grocery distribution that same day.

A Look Back on Tzu Chi’s Fresno Mobile Clinic

Since 2001, Tzu Chi USA’s Fresno Mobile Clinic has traveled throughout rural areas in Fresno, California, committed to helping low-income residents meet their medical needs. The team has also inspired local community groups, medical professionals, and community residents to participate in volunteer work through these regular community clinics. The Fresno Mobile Clinic has now been stationed in Central California for 20 years, and volunteers continue to pursue progress, always reminding themselves that there is still room for further improvement.
