Job Description

  • Understand Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation’s LISTOS Grant deliverables, and be the go-to-person for the assigned counties. Build and maintain strong relationships with diverse community groups, local leaders, and stakeholders to foster collaboration and enhance disaster preparedness initiatives, in alignment with the values of the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation and CalOES.
  • Work closely with the local branch offices. Coordinate and facilitate workshops, training sessions, and community events to educate residents on disaster preparedness, evacuation plans, and response strategies.
  • Develop culturally sensitive and tailored outreach strategies to engage underserved and vulnerable populations in disaster preparedness activities, incorporating the humanitarian approach of the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation.
  • Serve as a bridge between the program and the community, addressing concerns, collecting feedback, and conveying important information to both parties.
  • Collaborate with local emergency management agencies, nonprofits, and other partners to identify and leverage available resources for disaster preparedness initiatives.
  • Organize and participate in community outreach campaigns, utilizing various communication channels such as social media, traditional media, and local networks.
  • Assist and or initiate creation of event and educational materials, presentations, and resources that are accessible and relevant to different demographic groups, both online and offline.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of outreach efforts, gathering data and feedback to continually improve engagement strategies.
  • Attend relevant meetings, conferences, and events to stay informed about disaster preparedness best practices and trends.
  • Adhering to the transparency and accountability principles cherished by the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation.
  • Support program manager and program assistant on necessary tasks as asked within reasons and within program needs, including administrative duties.
  • Support events including venue, speakers, moderators, volunteers, equipment, and supplies.

Job Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Social media savvy and capable or managing and streamlining posting processes.
  • Cultural sensitivity and understanding of the unique needs of various communities.
  • Experience in community engagement, outreach, or related roles preferred.
  • Knowledge of disaster preparedness concepts and emergency response procedures is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Flexible schedule, as some evening and weekend work will be required.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.

Education

Degree: High school diploma required, college degree preferred.
Major: N/A

Experience

Knowledge of mental Community Outreach experiences and prior event planning experience preferred,

Language

English proficiency required, bilingual in English and/ or Spanish/ Chinese preferred.

Software

Microsoft Office Suites, Zoom, Google Workspace.

Salary

From $20 per hour

Other

Grant-funded position ends on Dec 31, 2024.
Require 20 hours per week with at least 16 hours in the office/field and 4 hours work from home.

This position can be worked off-site, but the contractor is required to be on location occasionally for team meetings.
