On December 9th, 10 weeks after the end of its large-scale operation – where $240,400 in direct aid was given out – Tzu Chi USA hosted a community gathering in Middletown.

It was a time for friends and partners to share stories, and an opportunity for volunteers from the disaster relief mission to inquire how survivors of the blaze were doing.

Nearly 60 volunteers attended the luncheon – 40 from Tzu Chi’s Northwest Region, and 19 from partner organizations. As for survivor families, while 126 people were on the guest sign-in list, an additional 55 others joined the party!

Everyone celebrated the spirit of loving kindness and gratitude.

Casey Dugan, who was in shock after the wildfire disaster, chose to share her gratitude for the care she had received with a song.
