How Tzu Chi USA is Responding to the Call for Aid, and How You Can Register for Relief
On November 8, 2018, the Camp Fire was sparked, devouring 153,336 acres in California with a vicious ferocity that destroyed some 13,972 homes, claiming lives, and leaving so many at a complete loss. For those impacted, it would seem their entire world had been turned upside down, and affected residents still desperately need help. The Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, also known as Tzu Chi USA, has been steadfast in their aid, and have put new plans into place which will enable us to help mend the hearts and homes of those impacted.
To date, Tzu Chi volunteers have distributed 4,612 cash cards in person to impacted families, the relief totaling $2,510,750 in direct financial assistance. We have additionally provided 3,837 eco-friendly blankets, 1,169 scarves, and sincere emotional support in this distressing time. A total of 10,463 individuals have benefited from this assistance thus far.
Don’t delay. If you have been impacted by this tragedy or know someone who is in need, you may still register for our upcoming disaster relief distributions on December 8th and 9th.
IMPORTANT: As the Disaster Recovery Center in Chico will close this Sunday, December 9th, we will offer emergency financial aid to registrants and walk-ins from 9 AM – 6 PM at the Southside Oroville Community Center (2959 Lower Wyandotte Road, Oroville, CA 95966).
All applicants are encouraged to pre-register to reduce wait time at www.tzuchi.us.
Hope Heals: A Prayer for Camp Fire Survivors
We will host a vigil and tree lighting ceremony at the Oroville Community Center in Oroville on Sunday, Dec 9, to honor the one month anniversary of the start of the Camp Fire. Our “Hope Heals: A Prayer for Camp Fire Survivors” gathering aims to offer a spiritual space for the community to unite and lift their hearts. The event will begin at 11 AM.
However, we knew we could still do more. This was the beginning of our Hope Heals campaign, the goal of which seeks to provide immediate cash relief to families affected by the Camp Fire by raising donations from 10,000 people, which will directly fund cash cards for 10,000 Camp Fire survivors before Christmas.
We provide compassion in person, offering comfort and love at a time of great need. To reach our goal of gathering 10,000 donors, Tzu Chi USAis currently accepting donations. Please support our wildfire relief mission to show those impacted the love they need to move forward. Your donation can mean the relief of a financial burden in the hands of someone who lost everything and must rebuild from scratch.
