Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tzu Chi USA will administer up to 1,000 doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine for free to adults 18+ who register by April 29, 2021.

Walnut, CA (April 21, 2021) – In the ongoing fight against COVID-19, the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation (also known as Tzu Chi USA) will be administering up to 1,000 doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine on Saturday, May 1, 2021 in Walnut, CA. Appointments are open to the general public (ages 18 and above) and must be reserved by April 29, 2021 at tzuchi.us/HQ-COVID-vaccine. Registration is available in English and Traditional Chinese.

Of the importance of the COVID-19 vaccination process being made available in several languages, Dr. Julie Lam, Chief Medical Officer of the Buddhist Tzu Chi Medical Foundation explains that “you have to sign up online. For some of our patients, they wouldn’t be able to do that if the website isn’t in Chinese or in their native language.”

Upon completion of booking through the online form, registrants will arrive at their designated appointment time on May 1st to the Tzu Chi Education Campus at 1920 Brea Canyon Cut-off Road, Walnut, CA 91789. Vaccinations will take place there from 8 am – 4 pm. Parking is readily available.

Registrants must bring with them a photo ID and, if it is their second dose, their COVID-19 vaccine card. It is vital that those who plan to receive their second dose on May 1st also have received Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine as their first dose. To ensure safety and full vaccination, there are no exceptions.

Ultimately, Dr. Stephen Denq, Chief Executive Officer at the Buddhist Tzu Chi Medical Foundation, illustrates the importance of vaccination efforts like this: “every dose given is more relief, because that means one extra person is protected.” Dr. Lam agrees; “it’s the first step moving forward. It’s the first sign of hope for our community.”

A follow-up vaccination event for first dose registrants to receive their second dose is scheduled to take place on May 29, 2021.
