FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On February 1, 2026, Tzu Chi USA Northwest Region (TCNW) held its Year-End Blessing Ceremony and, on the same day, hosted an unveiling ceremony for the Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning (TCML).

This milestone marks the official establishment of TCML at the TCNW. The adult Mandarin program will be offered at the TCNW Community Education Center, aiming to promote Mandarin education in the United States and to advance high-quality Mandarin instruction and cultural exchange.

Let’s Learn Mandarin, the TCML’s workbook, is designed for the general public to learn Mandarin as a foreign language. The classification for words and syntaxes from “The Taiwan Benchmarks for the Chinese Language” developed by National Academy for Educational Research is the basis for the workbook. Let’s Learn Mandarin provides various practice opportunities. A focus on listening exercises also helps fill the absence of a language environment in the U.S. for listening to and speaking Mandarin.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by Chijen Huang, Chief Executive Officer, and John Chu, Deputy Director General, of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco; and Sophia Chuang, Director of the Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco (Milpitas). The guests jointly unveiled the plaque to mark the TCML’s official launch.

Enrollment for the adult Mandarin courses will begin in January and continue until February 8, 2026. Two classes will be offered for adults aged 18 and above, with each term lasting 12 weeks. Members of the public are welcome to register and experience the beauty of Taiwanese Mandarin and culture.
