Hurricane Harvey Emergency Disaster Aid in Texas

Tzu Chi works with local chapters in Houston and Dallas to provide Emergency Relief

 

San Dimas, Calif., Aug. 30, 2017 – With over 93,000 people impacted by Hurricane Harvey currently without power and over 30,000 in shelters, local Tzu Chi USA chapters in Dallas and Houston are evaluating how they can best provide immediate disaster aid, after already delivering 300 blankets to shelters in Austin and Dallas.

Tzu Chi now plans to distribute 10,000 lbs. of instant rice11,000 blankets200 multi-purpose portable beds, and 5,000 first aid kits to those impacted in Houston Harris County and the Sugar Land area. Additional financial aid may be provided upon review, to purchase immediate needs such as clothing, shoes, medicine, and eyeglasses. Tzu Chi will also offer emotional support to evacuees in Red Cross and state-designated shelters, while their volunteer doctors will provide consultations.

Let’s act as one family to deliver our love to those impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Disaster can strike any one of us and we must care for and support each other at devastating times like this.
