Tzu Chi volunteers, some coming from as far as five hours away, began distributing cash cards to affected families in Redding for necessities like food, clothing, housing, medicines, and more. Residents also shared their trauma, with Tzu Chi volunteers giving them a shoulder to lean on.
Gini Durand’s home burned in the Mendocino Complex Fire. After receiving a cash card and blanket from Tzu Chi volunteers, she shared,
Since I had a total loss of everything, I now own a blanket from your organization… and it’s beautiful, I can’t wait to snuggle up in it.
A Carr Fire aid recipient in Redding cried reading a letter from the founder of the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, Dharma Master Cheng Yen. Tzu Chi volunteer Meiling Kuo held her hand and said, “Never give up…okay? Keep the hope!” Even a small act of kindness can give hope.

We’ve worked alongside FEMA, the American Red Cross, and United Way, and as we offer wildfire relief in Mendocino, we urge affected families to register for emergency financial aid online, and for others to share this form, so we may reach as many families as we can. Applicants will then be contacted accordingly.
To this end, Tzu Chi USA’s ongoing disaster relief needs your support. Practice compassion in action and make a donation or text TZUCHI to 91999. See our work in action and learn how your donation can give hope here.
