Global Action for Our Planet

Tzu Chi Foundation delegates, volunteers and the DaAi media team are in Paris, France right now, participating at COP21, the 2015 United Nations Climate conference, where 195 countries aim to achieve a legally binding and universal agreement to address global warming.

The day before the conference opened, setting up in the event space was challenging, but the design team was well prepared so everything fit in our booth nicely. The DaAi media team got busy right away, documenting the day of preparation and planning, then editing their daily news report.

As the COP21 conference officially opened the next day, security was tight: The heads of state of 150 countries had arrived.

The Tzu Chi team split into 3 groups: Volunteers took charge of the booth, sharing information about Tzu Chi Foundation and answering questions from an ongoing stream of visitors. The UN delegates attended the opening ceremony, then briefings and sessions all day. They also spread the word about our activities with participants from many nations. And the DaAi media team had their share of work conducting interviews and covering the action on many fronts.

The next day, everyone had the opportunity to participate in a fasting demonstration organized by Fast For The Climate. The demonstration drew a crowd of reporters and activists, and led to extensive networking opportunities as well as interactions with different media outlets. The DaAi media team had a chance to conduct numerous interviews as well.

Volunteers were also brimming with the loving Tzu Chi spirit at our booth, and it would prove to be one of the most active each day.

On Day 6, Tzu Chi UN delegates were interviewed in the UN Climate Change Studio, and invited to showcase our latest innovations relating to climate change. We presented the multipurpose foldable bed, and our Ethical Eating movement.

It was a fantastic first few days, and it’s just the beginning of the conference!

Tzu Chi Foundation will host a workshop on December 5th, 2015, on the topic of how climate change impacts countries affected by disasters, and multiple experts will share their views and experience.

We’ll keep you posted but in the meantime, let’s rejoice because the world is truly coming together on behalf of our beloved Mother Earth!
