Who We Are

Thank you for joining the big family of Tzu Chi Academy Long Island. The goals for Tzu-Chi Academy are teaching Chinese language and culture, as well as inspiring the compassion in our students and communities. Through humanity education, we encourage and guide kids to respect and love themselves and people around them, contributing to the greater good while bettering themselves. There are 25 Tzu Chi Academies in the US.

Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, an international non-profit humanitarian organization with missions in charity, medicine, education, culture, international relief, and environmental protection, was founded by Dharma Master Cheng Yen in 1966. Jing Si Aphorism is her life wisdom. It is easy to understand. It is part of our curriculum for kids to learn and implement the philosophy and have a good attitude in life.

Our students, teachers, and volunteers all wear uniforms for protecting safety, promoting sense of belonging and honor, showing the beauty of the group, and reducing bad habits. Class parents assist students and teachers. TCALI will celebrate our 27th anniversary. For the past twenty seven years, our school grows steadily through great efforts by parents, teachers, students, and volunteers. You will be invited to be a happy volunteer for a day to serve our children. Thank you for your support in school activities.

Jingsi Aphorisms” or “Still Thoughts” is a collection of Master Cheng Yen’s thoughts on Buddhist teachings and life lessons. Master Cheng Yen practices the teachings everyday, and she has always led a simple and virtuous life.

Jingsi Aphorism transcends religion and race as it teaches about life, love and goodness to which everyone can relate. One may not be a Buddhist to benefit from Master’s undeniable thought provoking aphorism. Her books, in fact, contains her quotations translated in different languages such as: English, Chinese, Japanese, Russian and Spanish…etc.

Character Education/Social Emotional Learning (SEL) – is the process of developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for school, work, and life success.

People with strong social-emotional skills are able to foster positive behavior, and make healthier life choices .

It helps to cope with everyday challenges and benefit academically, professionally, and socially. From effective problem-solving to self-discipline, from impulse control to emotion management and more.

Using the true stories from Tzu Chi Missions (Charity, Medicine, Education and Humanistic Culture) with others like International Relief, Bone Marrow Donor Registry, Environmental Protection, Volunteers to teach our children to cultivate virtues and positive behavior.

Flower arrangement, Tea Ceremony and Sign Language are also part of the curriculum.

Parent Volunteers

As part of registration each year, parents of each student pledge to volunteer once per semester.

Only the teachers draw a salary at our school so it is imperative that we reach out to the parents to help with our school.

By seeing the parents pitch in, this strengthens core values in our students, teachers and staff such as community engagement, pride in our school and respect for each other.

We further reinforce the importance of volunteering by recognizing the parent volunteers in class each week.
