Since 2007, the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation has been assisting eligible taxpayers across the United States file their annual income tax through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

How to receive help:
- Please ensure you satisfy the following requirements for eligibility:
- Must be NYC residence with SSN
- Total household income less than $69,000
- No 1040 NR (Nonresident Alien)
- No 1099-MISC claiming expenses
- Please be prepared with the following required documents for your appointment:
- Photo ID for you, spouse and/or dependent(s)
- Social Security card or ITIN card for all family members
- All forms of W-2, 1099, and other income
- All forms and documentation for deductions, such as 1098 (Mortgage Interest), 1098T (Tuition Statement) and expenses, child care expenses and provider’s Tax ID number
- Last year’s tax return
- Copy of voided check
- Health Insurance Card and/or 1095 form
- Identity Protection Pin # (if you have)
- If the child was sent to a nursery because the parents are working, please provide the name of the nursery.
- Photo ID for you, spouse and/or dependent(s)
Volunteers who participate in tax filing have passed the assessment of the IRS and received certificates. The tax filing results are also reviewed by the IRS on a case-by-case basis.
