Please join Tzu Chi Northwest for a one-of-a-kind, virtual evening “Giving Hope: Tzu Chi Northwest Region 2021 Virtual Charity Gala” that reminds us of the importance of giving hope.
As we round out the second year of the pandemic, we recognize pain, perseverance, and renewal through special presentations and performances. We also look back on gruesome wildfires in the American Northwest, where Tzu Chi volunteers have offered their sincere comfort and support, as well as earthquake-stricken Haiti, and in the wake of Hurricane Ida in the South and Northeast.
When disaster strikes, hope can heal.
With your love and generosity, we can give more. Tune in!

Our programs benefit communities working to overcome COVID-19, disaster, poverty, and food insecurity. Your generosity ensures these can continue, and it’s already made the following possible:
After dry conditions in the American northwest gave way to destructive wildfires, Tzu Chi volunteers brought emergency relief in the form of 555 cash cards (totaling $206,700), eco-blankets, and emotional support that’s benfitted 1,136 people. We also continued to support survivors of previous fires, like the 2018 Camp Fire in California, start their lives anew.
We’re striving to lessen the burden for families struggling economically through the pandemic – including through grocery, care package, and school supply distributions. We’ve also continued to provide PPE and joined the national vaccine effort, trying to safeguard public health as much as we can.
Hurricane Ida made landfall in Louisiana in August and weakened into a tropical storm as it travelled northeast. Tzu Chi volunteers in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, and Texas have brought emergency financial aid to 384 households (totaling $242,100 in relief), eco-blankets, and comfort to shaken and displaced residents.
More details about Hurricane Ida relief efforts here.
After a 7.2 magnitude earthquake rattled southwestern Haiti in August, Tzu Chi USA formed a Haiti Earthquake Response Team. Beginning in September, they travelled to plan and host emergency distributions that would bring enough food to feed 5,000 families of up to six people for as much as four weeks. They’ll continue through the end of 2021.

No matter what shape or form suffering takes, Tzu Chi volunteers are here to make a difference. The most powerful way we can do this is by empowering the suffering with hope.
