Tzu Chi USA Headquarters Sign Language Performers

Using Buddhist mudras, or symbolic hand gestures, Tzu Chi’s Sign Language Arts hold a distinct place in Tzu Chi’s culture. Intended to artistically share Buddhist teachings through elegant and graceful movements, Tzu Chi sign language performances require weeks of practice so the Dharma may be spread with refinement and beauty.

Inland Tzu Shao Youth Group Orchestra

Led by Nathan Chun, the Inland Tzu Shao Youth Association Orchestra is composed of high school and middle school students with a love of music as well as community service. In their spare time, its young members visit nursing homes and perform at events by Tzu Chi USA, hoping to spread cheer and represent the positive wishes of young people.

Tzu Chi USA Headquarters Choir

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP

Our programs benefit communities working to overcome COVID-19, disaster, poverty, and food insecurity. Your generosity ensures these can continue, and it’s already made the following possible:

Long-Term COVID-19 Recovery

We’re striving to lessen the burden for families struggling economically through the pandemic – including through grocery, care package, and school supply distributions. We’ve also continued to provide PPE and joined the national vaccine effort, trying to safeguard public health as much as we can.

Northwest Wildfires

After dry conditions in the American northwest gave way to destructive wildfires, Tzu Chi volunteers brought emergency relief in the form of 555 cash cards (totaling $206,700), eco-blankets, and emotional support that’s benfitted 1,136 people. We also continued to support survivors of previous fires, like the 2018 Camp Fire in California, start their lives anew.

Hurricane/Tropical Storm Ida

Hurricane Ida made landfall in Louisiana in August and weakened into a tropical storm as it travelled northeast. Tzu Chi volunteers in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, and Texas have brought emergency financial aid to 384 households (totaling $242,100 in relief), eco-blankets, and comfort to shaken and displaced residents.

Haiti Earthquake

After a 7.2 magnitude earthquake rattled southwestern Haiti in August, Tzu Chi USA formed a Haiti Earthquake Response Team. Beginning in September, they travelled to plan and host emergency distributions that would bring enough food to feed 5,000 families of up to six people for as much as four weeks. They’ll continue through the end of 2021.
