Fresno Medical Celebrates 15 Years of Service

National Headquarters  |  June 8, 2016

Fresno Medical celebrated its 15th Anniversary and the Grand Opening of a new Vision Mobile Clinic at a special event on June 4th.  As they looked back on how they have served their community since 2001, the occasion was also an opportunity to express gratitude to the dedicated volunteers, volunteer providers, and community partners that made their medical mission in the Central Valley possible.

The Central Valley Medical Team includes Modesto, Stockton, and Sacramento, and members of those teams as well as brothers and sisters from Tzu Chi Medical Foundation and Tzu Chi USA’s Northwest Region joined the celebration.

The event began with a video presenting a wisdom teaching by Master Cheng Yen, which was followed by a moment of silence in memoriam of a beloved volunteer provider who recently passed away. A short video about his life testified to how his dedication truly exemplified Master’s teachings.

The CEO of Tzu Chi Medical Foundation then shared a few words, after which Fresno Medical was honored to accept a Proclamation from the City of Fresno signed by the Mayor and other dignitaries.

Next on the program, Fresno Medical received grants from several community partners who believe in their mission and provide logistical, volunteer, and financial support.

A slideshow and speech by the Executive Vice President of Tzu Chi Medical Foundation then highlighted how volunteers, medical professionals, and community partners have collaborated to organize and facilitate free medical and dental services over the last fifteen years, most recently adding health education and vision services.

The Medical Director of Fresno TIMA (Tzu Chi International Medical Association) shared a few words, as did patients who benefited from Fresno Medical’s educational services.

The presentation of plaques and certificates to recognize the dedication of volunteers, volunteer providers, and community partners who helped Fresno Medical grow over the past 15 years followed, as did sharing from others touched by their medical mission.

Finally, it was time for the Grand Opening of Fresno’s Vision Mobile Clinic. Tzu Chi’s medical mission is to support healthy communities through free medical outreach events, health education, community volunteering, and mobile clinics that can reach underserved populations. The addition of a Vision Mobile Clinic is an important milestone for Fresno, as was the introduction of their first Medical Mobile in 2008, and Dental Mobile in 2010.

Between 2001-2016, Fresno Medical offered 512 outreach events, and assisted 26,455 patients through 87,785 service encounters. The market value of this free health care contribution is $13,650,768!

Let’s congratulate Fresno Medical! Thank you for a job well done over the past 15 years, and please continue because your communities need and depend on your love and service.
