Since 2007, the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation has been assisting eligible taxpayers across the United States file their annual income tax through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Drop-off only, appointment optional. Please call 973-857-8666 to schedule one.
How to receive help:
- Please ensure you satisfy the following requirements for eligibility:
- Total household income less than $69,000
- No rental income
- No 1040 NR (Nonresident Alien)
- No 1099-MISC claiming expenses
- No separate filing for married couples
- Please be prepared with the following required documents for your appointment:
- Photo ID for you, spouse and/or dependent(s)
- Social Security card or ITIN card for all family members
- All forms of W-2, 1099, and other income
- All forms and documentation for deductions, such as 1098 (Mortgage Interest), 1098T (Tuition Statement) and expenses, child care expenses and provider’s Tax ID number
- Last year’s tax return
- Copy of voided check
- Health Insurance Card and/or 1095 form
- Photo ID for you, spouse and/or dependent(s)
