With plastic pollution suffocating Earth’s oceans, we know each one of us has a duty to tackle our reliance on plastic products head on.

Introducing the

In a short video, we urge you to show us how you’ll replace everyday plastic items (especially those marketed for single use) with sustainable non-plastic alternatives and nominate three friends to follow suit.  Post it to your social media pages and- voilà- we’ll watch the movement grow!

Check out this video by Tzu Chi USA’s very own Anik Ghose to see how it’s done!

Here are some things you’ll need to do

Think of one plastic item you rely on often. Do you have a reusable, non-plastic replacement? If not, now’s the perfect time to look for a creative replacement.  Chances are, though, you probably already have it at home. See our article, 20 Things You Can Do to Reduce Plastic Pollution, for more ideas, too.

In your video, be sure to show us the non-reusable item first, then your eco-friendly alternative. If you can swing in a ‘passing motion’ for these items, even better!

Then, upload your video as a public post to social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, and more, and be sure to include the #PassOnPlastic hashtag and tag us at @TzuChiUSA. Be sure to like the TzuChiUSA on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, too. Let’s keep the community connected!

Here’s a sample script as reference.

 Feel free to be creative!

Together, we can all do our part to reduce our plastic consumption and help resolve ocean pollution, even if just one straw, bottle, or bag at a time.

If you’re ready, take things a step further and join a park or ocean cleanup near you this summer.
