Tzu Chi Scholarship Award Ceremony Brightens Students’ Futures and Brings Support From the Past

Tzu Chi USA Headquarters hosted the 2022 Tzu Chi Scholarship Award Ceremony for Southern California students at the El Monte Service Center on July 9. This was the first in-person ceremony that Tzu Chi has held in Southern California since the pandemic began. A total of 19 award winners invited their families to celebrate with them alongside Tzu Chi volunteers. The winners, all from low-income families, received scholarships of $1,500 each. These awards will assist students in thriving educationally, despite the current severe inflation in the U.S.economy.

The Little Things: Tzu Chi Thinks of Ukrainian Refugees’ Unmet Needs

Tzu Chi USA Headquarters has worked to understand the needs of refugees since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began. As the organization has raised millions in emergency funding, volunteers have realized there are countless essentials refugees are still missing after fleeing their country. The California campus held a summer clothing drive to be sent to Poland and bordering countries so refugees could have seasonal garments.

A Gift of a Mobile Kitchen to Help Tzu Chi USA Offer Hot Meals

The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank donated a new mobile kitchen to Tzu Chi USA Headquarters on May 25, 2022. The mobile kitchen, costing $80,000 to $100,000, will be used for Tzu Chi’s future emergency relief work in the United States. It will make it easier for volunteers to cook directly at disaster sites and distribute hot food to survivors. The mobile kitchen is inside a converted 20-foot-long container and contains a complete and practical set of home kitchen facilities. Four additional wheels allow a vehicle to tow the kitchen to where the hot meals are needed.
