Partnerships Expand Tzu Chi’s Back-to-School Supply Distributions

August is the back-to-school month in the United States. Each year at this time, Tzu Chi USA prepares school supplies for distribution to underprivileged students. In 2022, the Tzu Chi USA Greater Washington DC Region planned the back-to-school distribution in partnership with Truist Financial. The bank would provide backpacks while Tzu Chi would purchase the school supplies. On the day of the distribution, August 7, a total of 335 low-income families from Maryland and Virginia received backpacks with school supplies in affiliation with the Linkages to Learning Program of Montgomery County Public Schools, Maryland’s largest school district.

Tzu Chi USA’s Raleigh Service Center Reunites With Durham Rescue Mission for a Back-To-School Supply Drive

In June of 2022, with the sun shining brightly overhead, volunteers from Tzu Chi USA’s Raleigh Service Center began organizing a stationery donation drive in North Carolina. Reuniting with our friends at Durham Rescue Mission (DRM), volunteers wished to help students prepare for the new school year with enthusiasm and peace of mind.

Tzu Chi Volunteers Provide Flood Relief in Virginia’s Buchanan County

The storm that hit western Virginia on the night of July 12 was swift and overwhelming. In just a few hours, homes were inundated, power outages were reported, and roads closed due to flooding and landslides. Tzu Chi volunteers from the Greater Washington D.C. Regional Office mobilized quickly to visit impacted areas for disaster assessment, soon holding a relief distribution of cash cards and emergency relief supplies for 56 flood survivors.

Diane’s Story: One Fighter, Two Reclining Chairs, and an Infinite Source of Love

Diane Carter is one of the several residents under the long-term care of Tzu Chi. Since 2016, Tzu Chi volunteers have been keeping in touch with Diane, helping her meet her needs and offering a source of limitless compassion. In addition to Tzu Chi’s subsidy, volunteers took time to call Diane and check in, sometimes visiting her in Raleigh, North Carolina to deliver personal supplies. In April of 2022, a long-term care program was established to address Diane’s urgent financial situation. The volunteers offered solutions to help her pay rent and find furniture.
