Welcome to Musicali-Tea

In this special course, Dr. Sally will shine a light on the secrets to proper tea brewing and etiquette, the history of tea drinking in Asia and Europe, selecting different varieties of tea for assorted food and pastries, and more.

About Dr. Sally

Dr. Sally Wei is an accomplished classical pianist who has merged her love of music with another passion: tea.

A Certified Tea Sommelier by the United Kingdom Tea Academy and Tea Educator for Tzu Chi Foundation (USA), Dr. Sally is a popular lecturer in Tea Festivals around the United States. She combines her love and knowledge of tea with Eastern philosophy and Western etiquette to show us how tea can enrich our lives, relationships and mindsets.

Dr. Sally is the founder of Sally’s Parlor, which is dedicated to tea and music education.

Classes

Lessons will take place via Zoom, at 4pm PST | 6pm CST | 7pm EST, on the following Saturdays:

  • September 12th
  • September 19th
  • September 26th
  • October 3rd

Registration deadline: extended to Sept. 12, 2020*

*Registration after August 31st may result in a delay of course material shipment prior to the first class. Please sign up as early as possible.

In addition to these four engaging sessions with Dr. Sally Wei as your guide, your $69 fee will additionally cover:

  •  Eight premium tea samples (2 of each)
    • Light Oolong 8g
    • Charcoal roasted Oolong 9g
    • Amber Rose Black 7g
    • Osmanthus Oolong 12g
  • Premium tea container (colors may vary)
  • and a tea tasting journal (digital file will be provided for print via email)

Each class will center on a ‘tea of the day,’ and include a tasting section, an educational section, a cooking segment, and a musical accompaniment.

Class 1 – Charcoal Roasted Oolong

  • Tea drinking in Asia
  • Tea drinking in Europe
  • Musical piece of the day: “Méditation” from the opera Thaïs by French composer Jules Massenet
Class 2 – Light Oolong

September 19, 2020

  • Explanation of six basic categories of teas (green, white, yellow, oolong, black, and dark) and how to brew each 
  • Food of the day: Chinese sticky rice ball with sesame
  • Musical piece of the day: “Liebesträume” (Dreams of Love) by Franz Liszt
Class 3 – Amber Rose Black Tea

September 26, 2020

  • Tea making with flowers 
  • Teas vs tisanes (herbal teas) 
  • Exploration of popular tisanes 
  • Food of the day: traditional English scones
  • Musical piece of the day: “Rosen aus dem Süden” (Roses From the South) by Johann Strauss II 
Class 4 – Osmanthus Oolong

October 3, 2020

  • Afternoon tea table settings and etiquette
  • Food of the day: apple and almond cake
  • Musical piece of the day: “Fantasia on Greensleeves” by Ralph Vaughan Williams
